This post is quite a mouth-full, but I just HAD to share this ….
I am such a sucker for love stories, and was sooooo blessed when Kevin & Monica decided to use ME as the photographer for their elopement!!!!
We had such great fun whilst creating these pics, ‘practicing’ for the wedding the following day.
I will try and tell the story in the best way possible…
So here it goes, quoting Monica:
*ps – get comfortable, cause this might take a while ….
MEETING:
“I was in Cape Town for the World Cup and one of the games that I watched was the North Korea v Portugal game. They had shuttles from the city center to the stadium and I met Kevin on one of those. The guy sitting next to him offered me the seat (owe him so much!) and I ended up sitting next to this guy whose face was TOTALLY painted in North Korea colors. CPT has a Portuguese heritage so the loud obnoxious guys chanting for North Korea couldn’t be missed. Anyway, we basically had this conversation which was AMAZING! It was just 8-10mins to get to the stadium, but I swear, this conversation was the most amazing conversation of my life; amazing enough for one of the guys that I was going to the game with to take a picture of “the moment” – see first pic ‘Meeting Kevin ’ …. I swear I got off the bus with my heart pounding and my brain was screaming “OMG! What on earth was that?!”. So you can imagine how disappointed I was as I got off the bus when the North Korean supporter hadn’t even asked for my name? We just kinda stole glances at one another as we walked off. I couldn’t shake the feeling though, so when I glimpsed him in line in front of me, I had to take the initiative and I asked him for a photo right there in the stadium line – see inserted pic. Kevin eventually gave me his business card, asked for my name & number and that’s where it all started… June 21st 2010.”
THE IN-BETWEEN:
“Part of the conversation on the bus was about our similar circumstances (one day I’ll fill you in on just how parallel our lives have run). In this case we were both moving back to the US. He was moving from Nigeria to Houston a week before I moved from London to NYC. We emailed back and forth when I first got to the US and soon we were on the phone. We called the next 3 month phase “the frenzy” because we were on BBM, email, phone & Skype NON STOP! I’m talking about being in contact every minute of the work day, followed by 4-5hrs talking into the night/morning. We joked that we were “downloading” one another’s lives to catch up. To me it felt like I was back in high school. Remember those long phone calls with your high school sweetheart? Well that was us.
I had always heard from my praying sisters that when a man is ready he will look for a wife, but honestly I didn’t believe it until it happened to me. He just knew and he was ready. No coaxing, leading, hinting etc. Crazy but true.”
It was such a blessing to be in the presence of these two wonderful people, capturing such an amazing story….when taking the picture of them, kissing under the “Cape Town Stadium” sign, it felt like I was present at the moment they got off that bus looking for one another – knowing that they have found a life partner that neither of them was looking for at that stage
.
The rest of the story and the wedding pics will be on the blog later this week ….. so WATCH this space if you want to read more about the most amazing LOVE story….EVER!!!!
